In a landmark decision in Santa Fe, a New Mexico state court mandated that Meta contribute $567 million to a youth mental health and child safety fund after establishing that its platforms constituted a public nuisance. Presiding over the case, Judge Bryan Biedscheid of the First Judicial District Court issued the ruling following a three-week bench trial. The court determined that Facebook and Instagram played a significant role in exacerbating a youth mental health crisis, while also neglecting to protect minors from online exploitation.
