This latest figure continues a pattern of monthly increases in 2026, bringing Egypt’s official foreign reserves above the $57 billion mark for the first time.

In comparison to August 2025, the total reserves for August 2026 increased by $7.9638 billion from $49.2507 billion, reflecting an annual growth rate of roughly 16.2%. At the end of December 2025, Egypt’s net international reserves had been $51.4516 billion. The reserves have risen by around $5.76 billion, or 11.2%, during the first eight months of 2026. The pace of reserve accumulation accelerated mid-year, with net international reserves reaching $53.1342 billion in May before climbing to $55.0723 billion in June. Remittances from Egyptians abroad also hit record levels during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The Central Bank of Egypt reported inflows of about $47.3 billion, representing a 29.6% increase from approximately $36.5 billion in the previous year. In June alone, remittance inflows reached about $4.2 billion, which is 15.6% higher than the roughly $3.6 billion recorded in June 2025, based on official figures released in August.
Egypt’s latest available balance of payments data covers the period from July to March of fiscal year 2025/2026. During these nine months, the overall balance recorded a deficit of $1.8 billion, while the capital and financial account saw net inflows of $9.9 billion. The current account deficit stood at $14.6 billion. These figures offer the most recent official overview of Egypt’s external accounts before the August reserve update.
Monthly reserve levels hit new highs
Throughout 2026, the reserve total has surpassed several previous nominal highs. Reserves totaled $52.5938 billion in January, then rose to $52.7455 billion in February. By March, the figure reached $52.8306 billion, followed by $53.0092 billion in April, and $53.1342 billion in May. The reserve total crossed the $55 billion mark in June, $56 billion in July, and now exceeds $57 billion in August. The provisional August figure aligns with the pattern of ongoing monthly increases, as indicated by the latest reserve reports.
Compared to the same month last year, Egypt’s August reserve level is nearly $8 billion higher. The country has now recorded three consecutive month-end totals above $55 billion. July marked the first time the reserve exceeded $56 billion, and August marked the first above $57 billion. Compared to December 2025, the reserve stock has grown by more than 10%.
